MISSION STATEMENT

The 440th Troop Carrier Group History Project

The 440th Troop Carrier Group History Project was formed in the first months of 2003. The primary mission of the organization is to record, preserve and disseminate historical documents, photos and related materials of the 440th Troop Carrier Group, 9th Troop Carrier Command, 9th Air force, European Theater of Operations during World War II.

This web site serves to honor all of the veterans of this decorated command and serve as a resource to family members, historians and researchers.

This project is a not for profit organization. All funds derived from sales of books or other materials offered on this web site support the work of the organization, staffed by volunteers.

The first goal of the organization was to publish a second edition of the unit history DZ EUROPE: THE STORY OF THE 440TH TROOP CARRIER GROUP. This rare look at a combat Troop Carrier group was first published in 1946. Out of print for more than fifty years the history project published the second edition in 2003. The second goal of the organization was to utilize profits from book sales to distribute copies of this unique history to libraries and archives. In December 2003 books and CD ROM copies of DZ EUROPE were distributed to:

Library of l'Etang-Bertrand, library for the town of Magneville, France
